I had a lot of problems with this strategy. I ended up changing it up:
Start with Northern Hawk Owl
Turn 1: Call Darkness
Turn 2: Nocturnal Strike
Turn 3: Savage Talon until dead
Turn 4: Bring in Long-Eared Owl
Turn 5: Call Darkness
Turn 6: Nocturnal Strike
Turn 7+ Quills until dead
Then bring in Wild Etherwyrm
Turn X: Surge of Power

This strat needs a new middle pet. The Long-Eared Owl ought to kill the first enemy in two moves. Then you can get a few moves in before dying. I used Savage Talon because it has a higher possible damage. On a couple tests I nearly killed the second enemy that way before the Owl died.

After playing around with various middle pets I decided on a Firefly with Glowing Toxin. Apply that first and if you live, use a Cocoon Strike. Then bring in the Etherwyrm and Surge of Power. Even if you don't win outright, the Glowing Toxin ticks will finish them off.

The blindness effect of Darkness doesn't affect elementals, so it's 50% whether your Nocturnal Strike hits Tempe or not. If it does, this works.

Pedantic note: Nocturnal Strike actually has a 40% hit chance against Elementals in Darkness.

The base hit chance is 50%. You don't get the blindness effect on an Elemental, so no increased chance to hit, but you are also adding a 10% chance to miss because Darkness.

this strat is very hit or miss. The order of steps in my case were very miss alligned, My Long Eared owl did not die, i was able to get 2 hits off. On my Nocturnal Strike from my Hawk owl. It would often MISS even though the enemy has just had Call Darkness on it (edited)
