Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
RNG
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

A crit turn 3 of ABD part will likely cause it to fail but other wise solid,

Side note: you need to pass (or just click tail sweep again) the turn after using Tail Sweep

Nivmizzet wrote on 2020-11-04 10:29:14

This strategy still works in Shadowlands pre-patch as of November 4th, 2020.

needed soul of the aspects as first pet and i used liftoff on albino otherwise it died without doing any damage at all ageless drake was too slow to use time stop or devastate

Lisma wrote on 2017-11-18 09:08:23

Dragonkin Team:
Any Dragon
Yu'la, Broodling of Yu'lon (P/S) - 1, 2, 2
Spawn of Onyxia (P/P) - 2, 2, 1; other breeds will work too but will need more Tail Sweeps

Any Dragon:
1 - pass, Any Dragon dies

Yu'la, Broodling of Yu'lon:
1 - Breath
2 - Celestial Blessing
3 - Life Exchange
4 - Breath
5 - pass, Yu'la dies

Spawn of Onyxia:
1 - Scorched Earth,
2-3 - Lift-Off
4+ - Tail Sweep if Watcher is still alive

Have to agree with Ionian, not even close to correct. why deep breath if not going to deep breath a second time. Not to mention pets die well before boss.

Grimreaperz wrote on 2017-09-08 16:17:13

U can do this with
1.any dragon
2.Emmigosa 2,1,2
3.Spawn of Onyxia 2,1,1

First dragon dies then bring in Emmigosa
1.Ice Tomb
2.fire
3.Watcher gets stunned
4. fire until Emmie dies
Bring Spawn of Onyxia
1.healing flame
2.Lift of
3.fire until watcher dies

worked like a charm =)

Ty, I have a hard time due to my stance of keeping a clean collection of non pay to win pets/mounts. Nothing personal to folks that have em just my preference.

Shawnee wrote on 2017-09-17 18:40:05

This works fine, ty :)

Dubhglas wrote on 2017-09-22 01:19:46

I tried this with S/S Wild Crimson Hatchling, since he has the same abilities as Spawn of Onyxia, but was coming just short, but realized that if you breathe and THEN ice tomb, the hatchling dies, but the stun interrupts Watcher's eye beam channel so he gets locked out for 3 rounds, where you can freely breathe. Then liftoff one round before his nuke and2 rounds of breathe. Made it way easier and less RNG dependent.

Hedu wrote on 2017-09-25 15:29:05

Worked first time. Thanks!

Anonymous wrote on 2017-10-02 21:19:44

worked perfectly, used Onyxian Whelpling instead since they have the same abilities.

Nalli wrote on 2017-10-10 19:58:39

Just an edit...Spawn of Onyxia's Breath is 1, not 2...I couldn't get it to work so I used Soul of the Aspects in the #1 slot to deflect the nuke, then Breath twice, then Solar Beam as suggested below by Rifkin...then followed the Emmigosa strat which only allows Ice Tomb to go off, bring in Spawn and follow the strat...

BRPedersen wrote on 2018-12-27 19:40:37

This strat worked great, though I swapped in a Wild Crimson Hatchling instead of the Spawn of Onyxia.

Heseblesen wrote on 2018-05-26 22:26:16

For those that have the Soul of the Aspects I would recommend it for the starter pet in your lineup. Deflection - Surge of Light and Breath will do good damage to Watcher. At least I feel it is better to knock Watcher about some rather than just let my starter pet die. ;-)

DragonsAfterDark

I used Star's strat with the Sun Darter above, but tried the Twilight Clutch Sister second and I didn't need a third dragon.

Sun Darter Hatchling (1,1,x) Twilight Clutch Sister (1,1,2) and Any in case of RNG
(From Star)
Sun Darter casts Ethereal
Blink Strike
Blink Strike
Blink Strike
Ethereal
Blink Strike (Sun Darter dies)
Twilight Clutch Sister:
Twilight Meteorite
Phase Shift
Tail Sweep x 3 to victory!

I understand this is probably a redundant strat, but just in case someone was looking for something else!

Saiko wrote on 2018-05-22 23:37:18

As an affirmation, this is the strat I followed since I didn't have an Albino Chimeraling all the way to 25 yet. It worked on the first try...3rd pet wasn't even needed. Thank you!!

Winona wrote on 2018-05-09 21:02:20

This strat by Nail worked, but I had to use Tail Sweep twice in order for it to work. The first one hits, the second one is where the Albino Chimaeraling dies before actually hitting with Tail Sweep. If you just swap to Ageless Bronze Drake without doing this, Ageless Bronze Drake will just be wrecked before you can Time Stop. In essence, a pass would work too. Lined up with Antaen Cannon still.

Star wrote on 2018-02-26 00:09:42

Here's one I ended up using.

Sun Darter Hatchling (1, 1, x)
Infinite Hatchling (x, 2, 2)
Any dragon from the power breed with a strong magic attack like breath or tail sweep like Nexus Whelping

Sun Darter casts Ethereal
Blink Strike
Blink Strike
Blink Strike
Ethereal
Blink Strike (Sun Darter dies)
Bring in Infinite Hatchling
Roar
Early Advantage
Infinite Whelping Dies to the Anteon Cannon so your final pet should be able to kill it in two rounds it's recharging.

Xna - Doomhammer wrote on 2017-10-07 10:34:24

Any (---), Yula (12-) , Twilight Clutch Sister (122) 1465hp

Pass, bring in Yula
Breath x 2, Celestail Blessing, Pass- Dies

Sister comes in
Twilight Meteor, Tail sweep x 2

Tested 5 times, worked every time

Ultraviolett wrote on 2017-10-08 03:18:47

worked first try Thank you!

Anonymous wrote on 2017-10-10 08:04:32

I tried this and it failed first try, must have to crit or something because on second tail sweep it still had 57hp remaining, but worked perfect on 2nd attempt!!

Ttaka wrote on 2017-10-11 18:10:02

This didn't work with my S/B Twilight Clutch Sister. I may just have been unlucky (didn't get any crits) but Watcher always survived with like 40HP so I modified the strat a bit.

When Sister comes in:
Twilight Meteor, Tail Sweep. Prismatic Barrier. Tail Sweep x2

Kevin wrote on 2017-10-13 14:29:14

Soul of the Aspects 2,2,2 (it is from the shop, but it is great for this fight, so suggesting it anyway)
Nether Faerie Dragon 2,1,1
Chrominius 1,1,2

1. Deflection
2. Breath
3. Breath
4. Solar Beam
5. Soul of the Aspects dies while recharging. Switch in Nether Faerie Dragon
6. Evanescence
7. Moonfire
8. Arcane Blast
9. Pass. Nether Faerie Dragon dies. Switch in Chrominius

2 Wild Crimson Hatchlings 212 and 211. If one is not rare, use it first

Round 1 - Pass with sacrifice pet
Round 2/3 - Deep Breath
Round 4-5 - Tail Sweep, Tail Sweep (you will die before it goes off, bringing in last hatchling)
Round 6 - Healing Flame
Round 7 - Tail Sweep
Round 8 - Lift-Off
Round 9-10 - Tail Sweep to victory

Donsta wrote on 2017-09-04 20:13:21

Spawn of Onixia has same skill set as Wild Crimson Hatchling. I used one in the 3rd slot and it worked for me.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-05 10:35:56

Had to restart 7 times before healing flame got me above 1076 hp, so a fair bit of rng is needed for this strat. It does work however if you get lucky.

Asarkhadon wrote on 2017-09-03 03:20:11

Used Onyxian Whelpling + Spawn of Onyxia instead of pets 2 and 3. Healing flame and Lift-Off are substitutes of Time Stop and Devastate correspondingly.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-04 07:04:46

Spawn of Ony worked great as 3rd pet. Survived with like 52 HP but worked :)

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-04 18:06:44

Wild Crimson Hatchling also has Healing Flame and Lift-off

Emerson wrote on 2017-09-02 17:15:48

Lazserine wrote on 2017-09-01 05:53:45

Did not have Ageless Bronze Drake so I used Soul of the Aspects (2,2,2) Chrominius (1,1,2) and Bronze Whelpling (2,2,1) .
Start with SotA and Deflection then 2x Breath then Solar Beam and die. Chrom gets off Surge of Power before dying. Bronze whelping does Crystal Prison and then Liftoff and then 2x Tail Sweep.
