PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
It’s that time of year again! Pumpkins are glowing, fingers are sticky from candy, and the Headless Horseman is setting everything on fire. Hallow’s End went live today, and with it comes the opportunity for all those wonderful holiday pets. Though we haven’t gotten any new ones to add to our roster this year, this is the perfect opportunity to farm for the ones you might be missing, or perhaps to sell on the auction house.

Hallow’s End boasts a whopping 9 pets that come from a variety of sources. Below, we’ll give you some pictures and details on how to complete your spooky menagerie.

  • Creepy Crate

Cageable: No

Breed: H/H

This pet is obtainable only through an 8-part quest chain.

Horde players will need to speak with Zidormi to revert Tirisfal Glades to before the Battle for Lordaeron. Then, head over to the Ruins of Lordaeron above Undercity and speak with Candace Fenlow. She’s in a tent, tending to her cauldron to the right of the Orphan Matron.

Alliance players need only stroll out to the front gates of Stormwind to find Gretchen Fenlow, who is also tending a cauldron.

The starting quest for both factions will be called: A Friend in Need

  • Cursed Birman

Cageable: Yes

Breed: P/S

This pet can be bought with 150 Tricky Treats from the pet vendors: Woim & Pippi.

Woim can be found in the Ruins of Lordaeron for Horde players, and Pippi can be found outside the gates of Stormwind for Alliance players.

  • Feline Familiar

Cageable: Yes

Breed: P/B

This pet can be bought with 150 Tricky Treats from the pet vendors: Woim & Pippi.

Woim can be found in the Ruins of Lordaeron for Horde players, and Pippi can be found outside the gates of Stormwind for Alliance players.

**The Feline Familiar is a pet that counts toward your Crazy for Cats Achievement!**

  • Ghastly Rat

Cageable: No

Breeds: H/S, P/B, S/B, H/B

For this pet, you’ll need to head out to your garrisons in Lunarfall (Alliance) or Frostwall (Horde). You’ll also need to be at least level 100 and have a level 3 garrison. Once there, you’ll find a goblin vendor named Izzy Hollyfizzle who sells a wide variety of items.

However, to cage this pet you’ll need to purchase the item Creepy Crawlers for 5 Spooky Supplies. Spooky Supplies are obtained by completing daily quests offered by the orc Orukan, who can be found next to Izzy Hollyfizzle.

Once you get your five Spooky Supplies, purchase the Creepy Crawlers from Izzy and use the item. It will be consumed on use, and after that you should see pets have now spawned in your garrison for catching!

Another way to do this is to find someone who already has the decorations in their garrison, and see if they’ll let you pop in for a visit and some pet battling!

  • Ghost Maggot

Cageable: No

Breeds: B/B, S/S, P/S, P/B

For this pet, you’ll need to head out to your garrisons in Lunarfall (Alliance) or Frostwall (Horde). You’ll also need to be at least level 100 and have a level 3 garrison. Once there, you’ll find a goblin vendor named Izzy Hollyfizzle who sells a wide variety of items.

Garrison Pet Battles with Spooky Supplies:

Using 1 Iron Starlette with 2 level pets against any of the undead battles in the garrison.

When you go into battle mode, beat down 1st contender with only POWERBALL and then 1 WINDUP on the contender's death round. 2nd contender comes in and you would do 1 WINDUP to kill it, if not enough damage for a 1-3 POWERBALL kill. Then POWERBALL the 3rd contender until it is below 560 health and then explode for the kill (you might go into Starlette's death round), the 2 level pets get all the xp.
This plan for battle has a couple of variables for a more complicated success. Even when things don't go as planned you can ALWAYS win the battle if you play smart when a random variable is thrown at you, even if you only have 1 level pet left at the end of the battle. I consider this a winning 2 level pet battle plan.

Alternatively, for a single-level pet strategy, you can put a level 25 pet into slot 1 and have the Iron Starlette in the 2nd slot and battle haphazardly till death. bring in Iron Starlet and then use "Explode" when the last contender is below 560 health.
The 3rd slot leveling pet will get all the xp.

Iron Starlette is easy to get, either by quest or Auction house inexpensively.
Let me know of any other battle team/strategy that is better.

I did everything on a single character, save from a couple of forgotten quest turn-ins. Including these, it was exactly 700 Tricky Treats, but this value may vary because various sources drop them in random numbers. With the WoD dailies I got to 750 easily.

Hoping for an update the next year, things start to be getting really awkward and not in a festive way.
Enjoy the event, and good luck in getting the mount so this poor man can finally rest!

When battling the Hallow's End pets in your garrison, you can forfeit if the pet is not rare, kill it with an attack, and it should respawn instantly with a new pet. You can continue doing this until you find a rare one. You may want to forfeit then go and heal your pets at the menagerie before trying to capture the rare one.

Backline pets will always be critters or flying pets, or one of each. Pets that quickly destroy these types are handy, like a P/P Stunted Shardhorn or P/P Servant of Demidos. Feline Familiar, Thaumaturgical Piglet, and Voidstalkers/Warpstalkers are excellent, as they're good at dealing with both critters and flying pets. I'm running a Stunted Shardhorn and a Feline Familiar at the moment, as critters seem to be the more common backliner.

In your first slot, grab a good boy or girl with Superbark, which can't reduce an enemy pet's health below one. I like Lord Woofington and Grumpy, for the Howl+Superbark combo, but any dog will work fine.

In terms of breeds, generally the more useful breeds of the holiday pets are:
Spectral Spinner: S/S > P/S
Ghost Maggot: S/S or P/S
Ghastly Rat: S/B or H/S (edited)
