Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

It's nice to have the occasional strat that doesn't over complicate things, unlike a lot of the comment strats here. :)

Still works in 9.0.1 prepatch! very close but got the job done!

xValtrux wrote on 2019-08-01 10:46:16

For anyone still having trouble with this, Using pets with these attacks work perfectly: Swarm, Falcosour swarm! & Flock. undead pets with those skills are even better, I.E: Infected Squirrel

Dhae

wrote on 2020-10-03 01:15:19

I followed this using Infected Squirrel (Stampede), Bloodgazer Hatchling and Direbeak Hatchling (Falcosaur Swarm) and it worked perfectly first time.

Revolution

wrote on 2019-12-26 11:43:37

Rabbits work quite well using stampede and dodging Chromadon's big hitting ability.

TSP wrote on 2018-04-28 14:34:21

Even though this fight gives little EXP on regular fights, on triple EXP week it gives decent EXP. I used the Teroclaw hatchling and had two level 9 pets that I got up to 10 on this fight

Zalie wrote on 2018-07-02 22:39:10

I put a level 1 in spot 1 to absorb howl, then brought in Clockwork. Level 1 to 4 with my hat on.

Aradoa wrote on 2017-04-29 19:59:20

I use Chi-Chi with Wild Magic + Fire Quills and Ethereal after every Howl.

The greatest strat known to mankind - fast - easy and effective!

Geki wrote on 2017-08-03 21:55:48

I'd actually recommend going without the Wild Magic. With WM the Fire Quills hit for 237. If the Quills crit, though, it takes them above the damage cutoff point and the entire round is blocked. Had that happen to me quite a bit. If the first feather crits, the whole thing is blocked.

Eilhan wrote on 2017-10-30 14:53:36

While this fight provides very little XP for a level pet, it can actually be useful to include a level pet first in this fight to soak up the first Howl. A level 1 pet will survive and gain at least one level (Which can be useful later, since some other fights require a min level for leveling pets), and I've had more than one level 24 lacking just a few hundred XP to reach max level. The extra couple of rounds won't take long if you use a script anyways.

My setup is Level Pet, Clockwork Gnome (x,2,x) and for backup a Flayer Youngling (1,x,x), although it very rarely gets used.

Thanks for the script, use a backup pet in slot 3, with a hitting second ability and change the last line to 'ability(#2)' just in case it does need to be used.

As for the leveling pet, its just 1-4 but better than nothing, and probably be 7 if its up during the Pet Event.

Joe wrote on 2017-06-18 13:10:38

I used my Darkmoon Monkey along with my Bloodgazer and another beast pet to complete the Bloodgazer team rumble quest. Darkmoon Monkey (2/2/1) just about soloed the fight. I should have written down the steps, but every time Chromadon put the damage buff on me, I stunned him. Use Rake to keep Chromadon's damage down and keep the bananas raining down on him. I swapped in the Bloodgazer near the end because I thought he needed to fight, but I guess that's not really necessary.

Geki wrote on 2017-07-31 00:39:30

Just tried this. Went good for a while, but eventually the cooldowns of clobber and howl didn't line up properly and he nuked me with a howl buffed surge. Until then I'd only taken a raked normal surge and a raked howled bite. Kept gnome to clean up the last 200 or so hp.

qudtlsdlddu wrote on 2016-10-05 03:08:29

For me, Blitz doesn't give any damage.
Rabbit works well. After Chromadon casts Howl, use burrow or dodge. that is it.

Gráinne

wrote on 2016-10-10 20:12:21

If the Surge of Power crits under Howl, it would bring the Gnome to zero and trigger Failsafe. That's a 1 in 20 chance, though.

Clockwork Gnome's Blitz hits for 207 against Dragonkin, and you are guaranteed 2 hits, with a 50% chance of a third, each round, so you will do either 414 or 621 damage each round, without crits. If you are using a different pet with Blitz, the numbers would be different, but perhaps more important, if not using a Mechanical, that Surge of Power would hit hard.

Aranesh

wrote on 2016-10-11 03:48:17

The Clockwork Gnome only comes in one breed, it should be the same for everyone. I'd be curious if you perhaps used a different pet with Blitz?

Szuzsika wrote on 2016-10-11 05:19:32

It can happen if the hit crits, it happened to me 1-2 times, but other than that it worked

WIkanne wrote on 2016-10-12 21:05:17

If you start with Unborn Val'Kyr and use Haunt to speed things up a bit, then switch to Clockwork Gnome and try to use blitz, it will be blocked, every turn until haunt is off. Not sure if this is a bug or what.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-10-16 11:45:14

it's probably because he has the 'magic scales' buff that ignores attacks that do more than 250 dmg

Wikanne wrote on 2016-10-16 20:13:56

I totally missread that magic scale buff. That makes sens now.

Mergas wrote on 2017-07-30 17:27:17

Strategy worked fine for me. I threw in a Build Turret to speed things up a bit, it falls under the "magic scales" buff damage level.

Nalli wrote on 2017-05-21 22:22:39

Level 1 to 6 during Bonus Week w/hat on (899 xp)...I used a DM Zep (Anything with decoy would work), decoyed, swapped in lvl 1, swapped in Gnome and followed Strat above... :)

Riverdude wrote on 2017-05-21 11:51:06

For Bloodgazer Team Rumble I used Amethyst Spiderling (2,2,2) starting with Poison Spit, Brittle Webbing, Spiderling Swarm filling with Poison Spit keeping Brittle Webbing on cooldown until spiderling dies.
Ash Spiderling (2,2,2) starting with Spiderling Swarm if Chromadon is still webbed, and using same rotation as Amethyst Spiderling thereafter.
Never had to use my Bloodgazer (1,1,2) but planned to start with Warning Squawk, followed by Falcosuar Swarm!

Maulrats wrote on 2017-03-26 19:05:06

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-03-27 00:06:32

Just tested it myself with a lvl20 w/ hat on: 319xp.
Hearthed back to Dalaran and used the same pet in the Splint Jr. fight: 319xp.
Shame, since it's the 4th appearance by Splint Jr. in 5 days...

Truidiata wrote on 2017-04-19 03:25:38

Difference in XP might be due to the Pet Battle XP event that cycles with other Legion events

Anonymous wrote on 2016-10-30 18:22:18

Doesn't give a ton of experience or anything, but you can put a level pet in slot one to eat the howl and eliminate a bit more rng that way

Anonymous wrote on 2017-02-07 13:29:03

Safari hat + Pet Bonus week gets a level 1 to level 6

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-02-10 11:06:57

Plus, you can put a lvl1 magic pet in slot 2 to eat the howl, then switch to CG. It's not massive xp, but on bonus weeks, it's pointless to throw easy xp away.

FlibbitSC wrote on 2016-10-30 23:17:05

For anyone looking to do the Falcosaur "Team Up" quests which requires you to win 3 pet world quests using each falcosaur hatchling, this strategy works perfectly. Put your falcosaur in slot 1, Clockwork Gnome in slot 2, and any pet in slot 3. On your first turn, use your falcosaur's Falcosaur Swarm! attack, then switch to Clockwork Gnome and use the strategy above.

FlibbitSC wrote on 2016-10-31 00:19:27

Correction to my comment above - use anything on turn one *except* Falcosaur Swarm! - I got lucky on my first test with that, seems that more often than not your falcosaur will die on turn 2 if you do that.

Vinsanity wrote on 2016-11-04 11:16:08

You don't have to fight with them for that part of the quest. You can just make a team with any 3 pets, summonyour felcosaur and win against a tamer.

Markald wrote on 2016-11-17 22:45:57

There are later quests that do require your Falcosaur as part of the team while completing pet battle WQs so this info will still come in handy. Thanks.

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-02-10 11:02:29

@Markald, none of the Rumble quests require mechs to be used, so it's actually pointless info. Well meant, but of no use, unfortunately.

Sneaks wrote on 2017-02-08 02:58:05

With the Bloodgazer + two Beast pets quest, I just used the Ravager Hatchling and spam Rend, until Surge of Power one-shots him. Then, any NON-Zandalari Raptor with Exposed Wounds + Flank. You should be able to finish the fight without ever needing your falcosaur!

Horae wrote on 2017-02-10 02:35:26

Thanks for the suggestion. Worked perfectly :)

Hi wrote on 2016-10-24 21:50:23

Yup, any of the oozes destroy him very easily. I"ve used Viscidus Globule and just used Jade Oozeling 2-2-2. Both easily solo him since he can't one shot them with his howling blast combo.

Shavai wrote on 2016-10-03 23:21:37

Confirmed, unlike the other pet battles in Legion that will grant a level 1 pet 7 levels for a win, this one only gave me one level on one pet (I cycled in one level 1 pet who got the level and one level 10 pet who received no levels).
