Medium XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

Still works as of 10.2 as long as you follow Tessriel's advice in the comments and make sure your first two moths are Speed >281 (I used Starmoth H/S (2,1,2) and Cerulean Moth H/S (1,1,1)). Didn't make it to the third! Thanks Tessriel!

Made a TD Script to help automate the fight. I'd also suggest moths with Speed >281 to ensure they always go first for Li and Yen.

You can put Elekk instead of 3rd moth.

This is the best strat by far. I didn't have many pets so I used lvl 23 and lvl 24 moths as second/third moth. My first moth though was lvl 25 uncommon and she almost soloed the whole fight. Just needed one last move to finish the fight that my lvl 23 did brilliantly. Thank you

Ailyara

wrote on 2020-10-14 09:23:28

I just used this in 9.0.1 and it worked, seemed like Zhu got really lucky tho with stuns and I was unlucky with sleep so it took all 3 moths.

Worked great for me for SL also.

Reapuer#1632

Why are people having so much problems with this strat? It was easy as hell....just use the priority list and win. I never even used the 3rd moth...

Eatgrass wrote on 2020-08-15 22:36:25

Lost over 5 times, this strategy requires super RNG luck to work... *edit failed another 3 times.... (edited)

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-08-16 01:20:32

I went to check, but it's not up in EU this week.

ANYTHING with moths has serious inbuilt RNG around Moth Dust (or, less commonly, Moth Balls), but it obviously works often enough to be the most favourited strat for this tamer.

I wonder whether moth species and breeds shift the odds at all ...

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-08-16 22:41:43

I tried it on PTR, which seems to be using NA weeks. There aren't any Shadowlands changes that I can see in this battle, so it should be a fair test.

I won, but with only one Moth Dust stun, it was pretty close at the end.

Because Taran Zhu's second pet has a speed of 319, I'm inclined to think that having your first two moths, or at least your second moth, with a higher base speed than 319 might be a help. Yes, they have a Flying racial, but that gets knocked offf them.

His final pet has a speed of 253, so a 260-speed moth with a bit of extra Power in the last slot would be ideal.

None of this negates the effect of RNG; it just nudges the odds in your favour a tiny bit.

Xiem#1779

wrote on 2020-03-24 08:38:23

I believe this might have been a much more viable strat prior to the pet changes that took place. These days, it's pure RNG based on moth dust stun which rarely happens and it's just not a very reliable pet combo.

Li wrote on 2020-06-30 22:06:46

This strat still works fine as of 6/30/2020

Augustus wrote on 2020-08-12 10:04:11

My team got obliterated. Going with a different strategy. 8/12/20.

Twotoe

wrote on 2020-08-11 17:59:45

This works fine as of August 2020. My first moth almost soloed the fight and I never brought out the 3rd moth.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-26 15:23:31

yea sure ... 1 moth can do this ... not likely. NOT a single moth dust stunned, ALL 3 moths dead and last one alive and kicking with way too much HP.

Saintgabrial wrote on 2016-12-26 17:46:02

Most of the time these fights depend on the breed of the pet. Make sure it's a rare pet, level 25 and play around with different breeds (P/S, P/B and so on). Some work better than others.

DavidG

wrote on 2020-03-22 05:56:40

The strat as written calls for Any breed. If it's breed dependent, then it needs to be changed. As it is, it's highly unreliably, there's way too much RNG to call this a good strat. I've had it fail as often as I've had it succeed.

BLuebla wrote on 2019-12-22 06:21:21

does not work at all horrible strat

Toenail

Ebbiemay

wrote on 2019-03-06 23:05:41

It says any breed but I found that my 2 B/B's and one S/B did better than all the other combinations I tried!

nomisuke

wrote on 2019-01-24 15:30:13

Very close fight. My moths were stunned every time, which was unfortunate. I think it threw the timing off, but I finished with one moth left and he only had 136 health.

This really should be the #1 strategy since it uses three pets that are easily replaced and not neccesary for most other tamers in the tournament. You'll be down to the wire on many of the fights so you want to play around with different moths and breeds.

thebl4ckd0g wrote on 2017-05-08 22:11:19

ok. this is THE BEST STRATEGY. It should be #1 Strat. Over the current #1.

Dragonsoleil wrote on 2017-05-06 16:46:27

Wonderful!!!! I used Ashwing Moth, then Cerulean Moth which uses Slicing Winds instead of Alpha Strike, and my third moth was just an Uncommon Flamering Moth. Easily won with my Flamering Moth at greater than 65% remaining health. First two were Health/Speed and last was Balance.

Badjoojoo - SOE wrote on 2016-12-29 22:10:40

Wow, so fast, simple and easy, this should be your first strategy. I used three P/S moths, but I only needed one and it never got below 75% health. LOVE IT! :)

Ravynsur wrote on 2016-11-16 10:59:31

Beat it with 1 moth. Rare P/S - Speed 273 Power 305 - Still working as of 11/16/16 Nice strat Xu-Fu

Nana wrote on 2016-11-15 06:16:40

Perfect strategy, only used 2 moths, a bit slow but bullet proof.

Aklag wrote on 2016-08-06 19:07:13

Can confirm that it barely works even if all sleep chances fail from moth dust as of Aug 2016

Wowzir wrote on 2016-06-26 03:05:14

Still working as of June 26, 2016. I suggest putting your fastest moth in Slot 1 against Yen
