Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

1 / 6

This is a fork of Lazey and Applejack's strats. Due credits to them.

Any snail works.

I've made this strat as consistent and as reliable as possible to play around and minimize the RNG. Please be sure to read the steps carefully.

Level Pet takes a maximum of 847 damage in the unlikely event that all 5 Void Cyclone stacks manage to hit it at FULL DAMAGE. You can definitely bring a lower hp level pet if you're not feeling unlucky.

See comments for some commentary.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
RNG
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 14+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

With the nerf in pet xp from BfA trainers, I altered the script very slightly to just skip the level part. I put the snail in slot 2, and another snail in slot 3 just in case the RNG is very much not in your favor.

I brought a level 15 Skyhorn Nestling as my level pet. Only gained 198 XP, Im not sure if this only applies to Flying, or if it is bugged (Tides of Vengeance came out today)

I was leveling my lvl15 aquatic - same result. Seems like they nerfed exp gain from at very least this quest - might be from all of them.

Atanatari wrote on 2018-12-20 21:21:36

It seems to be every quest :( it’s like they only want us to level using the stones now

Kalimu wrote on 2019-01-27 04:21:26

I think they nerfed the xp because of Family Battler, you can fight the tamers as many times as you want now, even when the wq isn't up. They probably wanted to limit that kind of leveling to Squirt.

Briala wrote on 2018-10-11 18:29:56

I'm 0 for 2 with this strat =(via rematch string + TD script), Teroclaw died both times to Mindbender's first attack.

It seemed to not work as intended the first time, but it went well the second time. I did not use ravage at all though.

Thelrohn

wrote on 2018-09-04 19:02:05

As did I. Saw the "Alpha Strike until Teroclaw Hatchling dies" part so I kept hitting 1 and Mind Warper died before I had realized how low his health was.

(OP) Lyseria

wrote on 2018-09-05 00:46:47

I didn't know that was possible, haha. I'll edit the strat, but I don't know how to edit the script for that.

Einzbern wrote on 2018-09-12 13:49:58

standby [enemy.hp<???? & enemy(Mind Warper).active & self(#1).active]
Replace the ???? with 30% of mind warper's hp (ex: enemy.hp<300). Not sure what 30% is, but might want to account for possible crits on Alpha Strike, so maybe increase it by a little bit.

Add that to the top of the script. I didn't get to try it myself (forgot to right it til after), but it *should* work.

Kranthos wrote on 2018-09-20 14:48:43

Just use "enemy.hpp<30" rather than try to work out what 30% would be - hpp is the health point percentage.

Blot wrote on 2018-11-12 11:56:51

Ya, same, I was not paying attention and accidentally finished off all three with Teroclaw before getting the level pet in lol.

Loncis wrote on 2018-09-21 07:31:31

Nope.

If you don't use Nature's Ward with your Teroclaw Hatchling during the second fight with Lesser Twisted Current, there is no way your snail will survive the third fight.

Teroclaw Hatchling died with Mind Warper's first attack and never got a chance to attack. I swapped to carry pet (Trigger, who was 16th level). With Teroclaw Hatchling dead, and having done two swaps, Mind Warper brought Scooter the Snail down considerably with Shadow Shock (661) and Counterspell (154) before Scooter even had a chance to attack.

Then the first attack was Acidic Goo, which does almost nothing, in and of itself (92).

Mind Warper then responded with another Shadow Shock (451).

Then Headbutt from Scooter, which, of course, cannot do more than 35%, as Mind Warper is a magic pet. Ooze Touch (92).

Then Darkflame from Mind Warper (381), then Ooze Touch from Scooter (370) plus Ooze Touch (92).

Another Counterspell from Mind Warper (154) and Scooter is dead.

Fortunately, I was able to use Burrow with Trigger, which finished the fight. But had I used a pet without such an effective move, this strat would have failed.

As you can see, I'm not a victim of bad RNG. This is a bad strat. If you don't use Nature's Ward with Teroclaw Hatchling at some point during the second fight, this strat will fail. Teroclaw Hatchling must do considerable damage against Mind Warper before it dies, or Mind Warper will chew up and spit out your Snail.

Hi, thank you for the feedback.

If your Teroclaw Hatchling died from Mind Warper's first attack, then something happened during the last 2 fights that we can attribute to RNG, or Ravage never happened versus Lesser Charged Gale.

You should ideally be starting the 2nd fight healthy at near, if not full, health.

Lesser Twisted Current (Pet#2) only really damages you on his 3rd turn, he always starts with Void Cyclone followed by Toxic Skin. That's two turns worth of full Alpha Strike damage(which he is weak to) if you didn't lose speed advantage. You can finish this fight without Teroclaw taking any damage, but most of the time you take 1 Water Jet.

I'd like to note that Nature's Ward turns your Teroclaw to an Elemental-type while it's up. That means you take increased damage from Water Jet and Toxic Skin on top of giving Lesser Twisted Current an extra turn when you use it.

I believe it was just a really bad case of RNG. If you check the other comments, Teroclaw can even sometimes, very rarely, solo the whole fight.

I didn't use Nature's Ward against the second pet and indeed my Teroclaw Hatchling died without getting in an attack against Mind Warper. Nevertheless, my Scooter the Snail was easily able to finish the fight. I had a level 20 pet in, for the odd chance of levelling it, if not to finish Mind Warper if Scooter should die, but it wasn't needed.

I'll just add that i've tried this script 4 times now, all with the exact same result. The Hatchling dies horribly on "Lesser Twisted" (presumably because it uses Ravage with Lesser Twisted at almost full health). Which leads to the snail dying horribly on Mind Warper, resulting in a fail.

Manually going in and Alpha Striking Lesser Twisted to death worked great... but if you use the script, that goes for "Ravage", not "Alpha Strike" :)

So shortly put, your script is... defective :)

Hi, thanks for that. My sub already expired so I couldn't test the new script properly, my apologies. For now, I re-posted the old strat, it should work for now, just don't use a level pet with Alpha Strike.

No reason to apologize, if you cant get into the game to test it, that is not your fault :)

I've updated the strat again! It should work perfectly now.

My thanks to Thordros for the script!

This strategy worked well. The script however gets stuck if the level pet has alpha strike. Adding a qualifier that self(#1) must be active should handle that, I think

Thank you for the feedback! I've updated the script to account for this scenario.

Credits to Thordros for the revised script! :)

Good Tactic ...
just remove the Ravage completely, which makes the fight easier to describe, even less RNG and sometimes 1 round faster !
... @Aliok: I had a lvl 12 dieing (flying) in 1 attempt.

Feels a little long, but it got the job done. I do not recommend including a leveling pet if it is on the lower end of the leveling scale. My level 11 Docile Skyfin luckily survived with 9 HP.

To be fair, I did put the minimum at lvl14! :P

Slightly nervewracking, but a great strat. I wasn't sure my trainee Inky was going to survive, but it made it!

Thanks and grats on your Inky! I don't have any island expedition pets yet.

I just wanna say - I hate this fight. I mostly only make strats for these RNG heavy fights because it's what give people the hardest time, and this one so far was the hardest. Everything from the first fight to the last, it's all RNG. And on top of all that RNG, we're facing three different pet types (Magic, Aquatic, Elemental), and all three also have 2-3 different ability types. And don't get me started on how ridiculous Mind Warper is.

I hope this strat helps you all. Especially the people who dislike RNG. (mostly the tdscript spammers :P)

Deathcamp wrote on 2018-09-04 09:35:51

I've got a lot of duplicates at lvl 1 and they're perfect for these fights. Pick three that are strong against the three pet types you mention then just punch them to death. As the enemy pets will also be lvl 1 they only have their bog standard slot one ability open to them.

Hi there. Thank you for the script! I'm testing it before adding it to the strat - it doesn't seem to cast Nature's Ward in the last fight if Ravage from the 2nd fight carries over to the last fight. I'm guessing it's because of enemy(#3).hpp=full?

Is it possible to end the fight if Ravage doesn't kill pet#1?

Also, I've edited the strat to use Ooze Touch instead of Absorb. I think it produces better results.

I really wish I had just scrolled down before I wrote my own script. :P

ability(Nature's Ward:574) [!enemy(Lesser Twisted Current:2225).active & !self.aura(Nature's Ward:820).exists]
ability(Ravage:802) [enemy(Lesser Charged Gale:2223).active & enemy.hp<618]

@Eilthis - I was trying out your script but Rematch was giving me errors.

@Ralthor - Thank you! I added your script to the strat tab. I changed Absorb to Ooze Touch btw. Also, while testing your script, I found you didn't have to restart the fight if Ravage fails on the first fight, re-casting Nature's Ward lets you keep fighting until the last fight. I'll have to edit the strat to reflect that.

Please, please, PLEASE! Do not use the full pet name in your TD Script! This makes it incompatible when using substitution pets even if they are a carbon copy for the moveset!

Had unfortunate RNG on Mind Warper and got critted so whelk died(H/B) . Had a lvl 15 Onyxsia welpling as lvl pet that got the last hit in with breath. this might be something to watch out for when having a lvling pet in the team.
Else good guide :)
