Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Copied from Wowhead: Suggestion by Regent2203 and what finally worked for me!

Alternative Magic Mayhem, with only one infernal (one explosion):

1. Minfernal x/x/2 (i had 1465/289/273)
2. Hungering Claw x/2/2
3. Saphire Cub 2/x/x

Fight:
1. Minfernal - Pass, switched to Claw
2. curse of doom
3. darkness
4. switched to Cub
5-7. pounce
switched to Minfernal
8. Explode
Pick Cub
9. Pounce
Victory!

anon wrote on 2017-11-21 20:11:07

didn't work for me at all. the switches didn't function this way. i assume it's breed dependent and i really wish you guys would start specifying this. seems to be true of many of the argus fights. strats are totally dependent on what breed of pets you are using.

rikapi wrote on 2017-12-25 16:50:43

I was scratching my head I realized turn 4 was "Pass - switch to cub" instead of actively switching. whoops.

As for breeds, this one requires the Minfernal to be anything OTHER than H/H as Minfernal's health needs to be lower than Cub's 1075 after that ~513hp first hit. (but then if you had a H/H Minfernal to begin with, perhaps it's better to go double infernals...?)

purzlschn

wrote on 2018-01-25 14:02:20

the problem here is, as with Darkness, hit chance is set to 90 % - I had it a few times that curse of doom did not hit and pounce before missed twice...

momto3plus1

This one finally worked for me after trying different strats for over 2 hours. Cubs pounce missed the first time so reset.

callena

wrote on 2020-11-15 08:34:52

Not sure if this still works post pre-patch or if i was just unlucky, I was 10 hp on snozz short of a win first try, tried again and 7 HP short of killing snozz. Couldnt then out damage the heal either time :(

I have both infernals in HH breed and still didn't quite do enough damage.

Edit - tried a third time and still a few HP short from the original strat, but managed to add a rip and 2 pounce and kill it before my cub got killed. (edited)

swapped the Rake in the middle (turn 4) for a Pounce instead, I had a P/S netherspace, an SS sapphire cub, and a HP Minfernal, was consistently off my 90 or so, worked first try after the switch

Michele wrote on 2018-11-24 14:02:49

This was the trick I needed too. Minfernal P/P, Sapphire Cub & Netherspace Abyssal H/H

Raiann wrote on 2018-01-19 16:26:07

I managed to do this with
Court scribe (1,1,2)
Jade oozeling (1,1,2)
Trunks (1,2,1)

1.pass
2.switch to court scribe
3.curse of doom
4.pass (court scribe dies and jade oozeling comes in)
5.acidic goo
6.corrosion
7.pass (trunks comes in)
8.headbut
9.moonfire

It failed the first time when snozz attacked trunks 3 times

for me that I didn't have the HH breeds for [Netherspace Abyssal] and [Minfernal], I used the one with most life at the begginning and the one with most powerful attack as 3rd pet, and with a single crit from any hit, Snozz fells

Sarl wrote on 2017-09-10 19:22:00

Finally got this annoying battle to work. Tested it 5 times. Won twice.

Jade owl (1465 health) Rush, Trash
Netherspace Abyssal (1725 health) Immolate, meteor, explode
Sancum cub (1400) Leap, pounce, black claw

Jade owl - Pass
Abyssal - Immolate, meteor, explode, bring in cub
Cub - Leap, black claw - owl forced in
Owl - Rush, Thrash (should hit about 3 times) will die
Cub - Leap, pounce x2

From wowhead, thanks Roeevv!!!! worked first time

By roeevv (2,831 – 1·10·30) 3 days ago (Patch 7.3.0)
magic:

Mini Mindslayer (1,-,2)
Viscidus Globule (2,2,2)
Sanctum Cub (2,2,2) - i used b/b (1481 hp). the lowest hp breed might have lower chances.

1. Mini Mindslayer > pass.
2. Viscidus Globule is forced in - swap manually to Mini Mindslayer.
3. Mini Mindslayer > Eyeblast > Life Exchange (the amount of hits you get doesnt matter).
4. Viscidus Globule is forced in > Acid Touch > Creeping Ooze > Poison Spit.
5. Sanctum Cub is forced in > Black Claw > Leap > Rend.
* unless your Cub got critted or tripled twice - the boss should be dead.

RadiantGlyph wrote on 2017-10-21 10:43:24

Worked exactly as posted!

One note, if you have the P/H breed Sanctum Cub, make sure you have pets 2 & 3 slotted in this order. The P/H cub has the same HP as the Glob, and Void Gate defaults to the next pet in sequence if there is no 'highest health' pet to switch to. If you have their locations switched around the cub will be swapped to instead of the glob each time and the strat won't work.

Oceanaia wrote on 2017-10-26 15:58:27

I vote for this strategy as well. I used a SS breed on Sanctum Cub and it worked. The single RNG is the turn before Leap. If Snozz makes a triple attack on cat then it is a lost battle with SS breed.

Yeti Uprising wrote on 2017-09-08 12:40:02

Had to alter Matt's strategy below to get it to work for my pets and breeds. There's still RNG here, but it worked for me.
Minfernal (P/B) x,x,2 / Disgusting Oozeling x,1,2 / Lesser Voidcaller (H/H) 1,1,1

Pass, Void swaps
Curse of Doom > Siphon Life > Pass, Ooze swaps
Acidic Goo > Corrosion > Pass, Minfernal swaps
Explode, Pick Void
Shadow Shock

EyeSage wrote on 2017-09-08 18:08:34

This worked but I needed netherspace abysmal in place of minfernal My minfernal was not PB the Netherspance Aby had enough health to make explosion bigger. I still lost 3 times from crits, but I could tell its should work.

Vermivora wrote on 2017-09-08 21:35:16

This also worked for me on the first try but my minfernal is H/P

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-09 17:10:34

Worked for me. H/P Minfernal and H/H Voidcaller.

Darkmart wrote on 2017-09-13 18:22:08

My Voidcaller was B/B, but this strat can still work :

Oozeling first spot - take one hit - forfeit
restart fight - take one hit - forfeit

Now put minfernal on the first spot and restart. your oozeling has less HP then Voidcaller but more of the minfernal and you can follow the exact same strat.

kurwa wrote on 2017-09-18 22:22:39

wrendarla

wrote on 2018-04-19 11:05:41

Minfernal H/H is best if you can get it, since it has more health to explode with :) tried with my P/P Minfernal and it just didn't cut the mustard.

velnia wrote on 2018-03-04 21:01:38

Netherspace Abyssal p/s
Sapphire Cub s/s
Minfernal p/b (2,2,2)

Pass
immolate
explode
prowl
explode
pounce
rake
pounce (win just barely)

Lilyoptra wrote on 2018-04-01 18:01:07

Worked with my P/P Netherspace and my H/P Minfernal. (Original strat did not) Just had to add an additional Pounce at the end. Thank You.

Tworob wrote on 2018-04-01 18:43:41

This also works using as mentioned breeds and abilities by Velnia's post but with a B/B Minfernal. Agree with Lilyoptra's response that had to add an extra pounce to the end.

Maelchon

wrote on 2018-04-09 00:18:51

Agree with Velnia, the strat as written kept failing but when I switched to Immolate on the Netherspace Abyssal and Prowl (before being rotated out, which seemed weird but worked) not problems at all.

Khes

wrote on 2018-04-12 03:34:01

works perfect if you don't have the breeds specified above. i'm confused about why you use immolate instead of crush on turn 2 (i had to do it to get this to work with pp ss bb respective breeds.

Kathleene

wrote on 2018-04-09 00:54:31

I didn't have the specified H/H breeds, but it worked just fine with P/S, S/S, and P/S, respectively. Thanks again, Lazey & XuFu.

wildtalon

This first strategy does not work at all unfortunately. Change turn 4 to Pounce and as long as RNG doesn't get in your way, it works far better.

Chamunda wrote on 2017-11-11 22:23:11

This is what finally worked for me. Thankfully, since I don't have a Minfernal or an Abyssal that are H/H.

Tigra wrote on 2017-12-25 00:32:23

Yes, subbing Pounce in for Rake is the right move here. The main strat should be updated to this. Good call. This also allows you to use this strat with a Minfernal of a different breed (I only have P/B and this worked for me).

Groovjin

wrote on 2017-12-25 14:18:45

i can confirm this. pounce allows you to use non-H/H Breeds (my Abyssal is P/P and Minfernal P/B; cub was S/S)

Aagepala wrote on 2017-12-30 04:36:21

Does work, but should be mentioned that it might require some crit RNG on Snooze's Flank ability on the Netherspace Abyssal on turn 5. My Netherspace Abyssal was P/S and if Snooze managed to crit on a single hit of Flank on turn 5, my Netherspace Abyssal would die before casting Explode.

Askania

wrote on 2018-01-04 01:49:20

Thanks Chamunda it's been a long time between straight up easy fights with no rng :) And my Abyssal was P/P and Minfernal is B/B

Nemy

wrote on 2018-01-10 22:04:40

P/P Netherspace Abyssal, P/B Minfernal. Got this to work after a few tries. Was lucky and Snozz's flank only hit once the last time, I was left with 37 hp he had 20hp. Phew.

Ashtora wrote on 2017-10-18 14:25:08

So thankful that the one Minfernal I could catch in months ended up being a H/H breed (idk what other breeds there are) and this strat worked on the first try. Thanks!

I only had P/S for both minfernal and Abyssal and it worked out ok for me. I accidentally Pounded the first time I brought cub in then the next time I raked, pounced until he died.

Shunai wrote on 2017-09-17 20:04:32

RNG dependant, but worked for me, since I didn't have the Minfernal.

Netherspace Abyssal X-2-X
Sapphire Cub 2-X-X
Sanctum Cub X-2-2

1-Pass, Sanctum Cub swaps in
2-Black Claw
3-Leap
4-Leap, Sapphire Cub swaps in
5-Pounce
6-Pounce
7-Pounce
8-Explode
9-Sapphire Cub comes in, Pounce

tibbsey wrote on 2017-09-18 14:46:39

THANK YOU BABY JEBUS. Finally a team that didn't require NOT having a P/P Netherspace Abyssal!
Abyssal was P/P and my Sanctum Cub was B/B.

Sylvanara wrote on 2017-09-18 16:31:58

Sadly, tried this strat 15 times and always ended the same way, with 34 health left and instant death. Since I'm one of those unlucky souls who doesn't have a Minfernal because of the crap spawn rate, guess I'll be waiting a while to get the Family achievement.

Ren wrote on 2017-09-18 23:25:08

This worked for me (P/S Nether, P/B Sanctum) with a slight adjustment. Instead of Black Claw>Leap>Leap, I did Black Claw>Leap>Pounce. Rest worked as advertised!

Maaisha wrote on 2017-09-19 08:41:50

I used Ren strategy and it worked for me.

Tamarack wrote on 2017-09-19 23:06:52

Ren modification to this strategy was the key!

completed on first try after several tries on all the strats as listed above- thank you!!

strumpett wrote on 2017-09-27 10:13:49

only had P/P varieties. worked anyway substituting pounce for rake like suggested

Fashaw wrote on 2017-10-21 12:35:52

Same here. Worked just fine.

Phalcor wrote on 2017-09-24 06:46:59

Turn 4 I just used Pounce instead of Rake. No need to slow down the varmit if we're just going to Explode one turn later.

Cuius wrote on 2017-09-24 17:04:00

This worked! thank you! =DD

Do this INSTEAD of rake, after several attempts, this worked 1st try.

Chrisski wrote on 2017-09-30 05:46:13

Yes the turn 4 pounce made the final difference, ty!

Aderana wrote on 2017-10-03 12:24:37

This made the difference for me, too.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-06 01:32:37

I'm so sick of seeing the Minfernal on these strats! Wasn't the point of these guides to NOT use rare pets or specific breeds??

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-06 04:42:16

wow chill... these fights, up til today have only been tested on PTR. Give them some time to come up with better strats :/

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-06 05:21:59

Minfernal is a wild pet, go catch one. And no, the point of these guides is to collate a series of kill strategies so pull your head out of your backside and be grateful

Fluffyrock wrote on 2017-09-06 11:03:41

They specifially say on the general page for argus that they are simply glad to find strategies and can't guarantee that the strategies will not include rare pets. So I really don't see why you're mad.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-06 17:22:51

yes Minfernal is a wild pet but it is extremely hard to find... been looking for one for months ... eventually i will find that little bugger ... but in the mean time... i will wait patiently for someone else to come up with another strat or.... will try to find another pet that will work, but not going to complain because i am thankful this site exists

Lilianne wrote on 2017-09-07 10:34:40

Yes. It's week #1 of Mac'Aree being up. Some of these fights are very tough! If you don't have enough rare/hard-to-find pets, you might not quite be up to the area's level. Don't be angry at the messenger.

Istaro wrote on 2017-10-13 21:57:38

Fortunately it's a battle pet though, so it's account-wide, so you can just make a trial character on the lowest pop server (currently Tol Barad per realmpop.com) and park it in the area to speed things up a lot.

Krazzie wrote on 2017-10-04 08:40:29

Wowwee this took much longer then it should have, mainly because I don't have a Sapphire Cub...
Ended up using
Netherspace Abyssal 2,2,1
Minfernal 2,2,2
Trunks 2,1,2

1. Pass
2.Extra Plating
3. Immolate
4. Nether Gated - Trunks came in
5. Ethereal
6. Smash
7. Nether Gate - One Abyssal came in
8. Explode - Bring in next Abyssal
9. Explode - Bring in Trunks
10. Headbutt

Still got slammed by RNG at times, but this was the best I could do...

Matt wrote on 2017-09-05 15:53:05

Didn't have H/H breeds so here's what worked for me; it took a lot of tinkering and one of the keys is that the Voidcaller has more health than the Oozeling.
Trunks (2, 1, 1); Jade Oozeling (P/P, 1, 1, 2); Lesser Voidcaller (B/B, 2, 1, 1)
1: Pass and he swaps in Void
2-4: Curse of Doom-->Siphon Life-->Pass (swaps in Oozeling)
5-7: Acidic Goo-->Corrosion-->Pass (swaps in Trunks)
8: Headbutt

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-05 23:30:35

This was almost working for me, but the Headbutt at the end was leaving Snozz with ~80hp left. Instead I used Moonfire and When Elekks Fly - had to do it twice because of the 50% hit rate on that last one.

Shashos wrote on 2017-09-06 02:06:08

No H/H breeds here. This strat worked perfectly. Thank you!

Tsoonami wrote on 2017-09-07 02:29:33

Nice alternative that finally worked for me. I too had to employ the Moonfire+When Elekks Fly combo since even power crits on Headbutt only brought Snozz down to 13hp. Took several tries given the 50% hit rate but a useful consideration if the Headbutt strategy isn't working for you.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-07 16:16:28

Thank you Anonymous, using Moonfire & When Elekks fly worked awesome!

Killed it with both netherspace abyssal p/s and minfernal p/s.
When Sapphire cub was first swapped in I used Pounce
When sapphire cub was swapped in for the last time I used Prowl, then pounce until he died

Eos wrote on 2017-09-23 23:27:10

Quenais wrote on 2017-09-06 00:55:25

Managed it with non-H/H breed pets using a modified version of this strat.

I had a P/S Netherspace Abbysal, a P/P Minfernal, and a S/S Sapphire Cub.

Started with my Netherspace Abyssal, then used Extra Plating on the Minfernal. Crush, pass, should be swapped to the sapphire cub. Prowl, Pounce, Rake. Then Explode on whichever abyssal you get swapped to, then Explode on the second one. Sapphire Cub managed to finish up with a Pounce afterwards.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-06 05:27:42

Great. Bit of RNG as always but a few restarts should not be a shock to anyone at this point

Moenia wrote on 2017-09-06 14:42:19

Nuriana wrote on 2017-09-06 16:00:03

Thanks for that great modification! I did not want to hunt for a new Minfernal and with your strategy I was able to pull it off with Abyssal and Minfernal both with P/P breed at the very first try!

Hannah wrote on 2017-09-07 21:27:51

Thanks for the strat. Too bad I don't have Sapphire Cub. : /
I tried using Sanctum Cub instead since they're similar, and for whatever reason, the strat doesn't work at all. Like, not even close. I looked up the stats for Sapphire Cub, he's faster with less health than Sanctum Cub....i wouldn't have thought it would matter that much since the extra health should have helped the Sanctum and he has Leap+Black Claw+Pounce...but he just gets wrecked.

Nikapo wrote on 2017-09-08 04:50:26

I had P/S Minfernal, H/H Netherspace Abyssal, S/S Sapphire Cub. I had to put the Minfernal first, it didn't work the other way around :)

Maevrin wrote on 2017-09-18 17:31:05

P/P Netherspace Abyssal and P/S Minfernal. Subbed Sapphire Cub Rake for Pounce (as described above) and boom, one shot! Thanks Kami :P

Dubhglas wrote on 2017-09-18 13:01:04

Did it with a P/P Netherspace Abyssal, H/P Minfernal and S/S Sapphire Cub. Just needed a couple extra pounces at the end.

Xna - Doomhammer wrote on 2017-09-18 09:27:17

Worked 3rd time. Needed 4 pounces and only survived because he only hit once = rng.
But nice strat.

Chidsuey wrote on 2017-09-09 12:40:01

There's not really a reason to use Rake as far as I can tell. Your Sapphire Cub won't die during the one round it takes 50% less damage anyway, and Pounce is 100+ more damage. Use Pounce both times.

Thannya wrote on 2017-09-09 15:58:47

That was it. two pounces. Thank you! :)

ttk wrote on 2017-09-11 08:59:33

I swapped rake to pounce ass advised here and it worked perfectly!! Thank you!

Pommie Tappet wrote on 2017-09-14 16:25:28

Thank you, Chidsuey. Two Pounces = easy win!

Swyftlyght wrote on 2017-09-16 19:40:46

2 pounces is definitely the way to go here. Using rake the first time got Snozz to 24 hp before he healed.

Yewfire wrote on 2017-09-15 22:08:18

Amandrix wrote on 2017-09-08 15:18:48

Trunks (Smash / Etheral / Headbut) + Jade Owl (Trash / Adren Rush / X) + Sanctum Cub (pounce / leap / black claw) easy kill if you have trunks.
Start with trunks, use etheral on first round, then smash + headbut, cub is swapped, use pounce rush black claw, jade owl is swapped, use rush then if you are lucky with 2x 3hits trash or you had some crits earlier from any of your pets, he is dead.

suutar wrote on 2017-09-08 18:34:15

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-09 17:07:07

Def needs breeds. The swaps can be quite different.

Amandrix wrote on 2017-09-10 04:06:53

As I was unaware of breeds so far, I'll post here my pets stats that worked and works every time with very little RNG...
Trunks 1546 hp, 338 / 211
Jade Owl 1481 hp, 276 / 276
Sanctum Cub 1546 hp, 289 / 260

Drizz wrote on 2017-09-11 06:01:06

Good strat. Need to definitely get lucky with either 2x 3 hits with Thrash or at least one crit.

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-09-14 03:05:02

That's a B/B Jade Owl and an H/P Sanctum Cub (Trunks only has 1 breed) to save people going to check.

eire-windrunner/kr wrote on 2017-09-11 01:37:17

It's works. I have Netherspace Abyssal(pp) and Minfernal(hh)
so I change Minfernal first and after change Netherspace Abyssal. good

TK wrote on 2017-09-10 22:05:50

P/P Netherspace Abyssal works if you switch the positions with Minfernal (you need the extra damage from the Crush).

Ven wrote on 2017-09-10 20:01:59

Did same strat with a P/S Netherspace Abyssal and an H/P Minfernal. Last turns from Sapphire Cub were Prowl > Rake > Pounce > Pounce.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-09 08:26:13

Did the same strat with a H/H abyssal and P/B Minfernal.

Ariyana wrote on 2017-09-08 05:47:12

There's no need to Rake on the fourth turn with the cub, you should only ever get hit once by Void Gate with it. Use Pounce both times it's in and you should not be prone to relying on RNG from Crush getting higher end hits.

Ezriann wrote on 2017-09-08 17:38:12

It was super close for me, I had to use 2-3 extra Pounces and only had 40 something health left for my Sapphire Cub when I won, but substituting Pounce for Rake in Turn 4 was the only thing that worked for me. Thank you for this!

Danvash-Sargeras wrote on 2017-09-07 21:25:52

I did this with Brightpaw, Jade Oozling, and H/H Netherspace Abyssal.

Wait until the boss heals with Buried Treasure, then Explode > Acidic Goo > Arcane Dash > Bite. It should be dead unless it gets some lucky crits on you.

Sonoftheblue wrote on 2017-09-07 18:37:36
